Alice in Wonderland in 3D!

(from the Huffington Post)
Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen (life imitates art?)

The Tim Burton 3-D flick doesn't come out till spring 2010, but film fans now have their first look at Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen from the upcoming "Alice in Wonderland." The lead role of Alice will be played by 19-year-old unknown Mia Wasikowska from Australia.

I'm looking forward to this 3D version especially having enjoyed the 3D experience of Coraline a few months back.

I am a big fan of Disney's 1951 animated version. I've also enjoyed some of the other adaptations, (there have been over 20!) some were more artistically and intellectually challenging than others (ex. the 1976 "x" rated version), but there's something so charming about the exquisite animation of the '51 version as well as its great score that I find particularly enchanting.

Although highly romanticized in the typical Disney fashion, it reminds me of those classic English children's classics like The Wind in the Willows and Winnie the Pooh. It's marked on my calendar.
