Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma My Sharona

The lead singer of The Knack, , who co-wrote the hit My Sharona, has died of cancer at the age of 57. Though not able to replicate the success of this iconic song, The Knack lived on as total head banging music in much the same way as does "Bohemian Rhapsody".

After reading about this on Brians's Facebook wall, I left him a comment which was an actual memory that this song holds for me. I'll repeat it here for those who aren't Facebook "friends".

This song always reminds me of a seedy strip club in Hamilton. Was rehearsing a show upstairs from this club and one day we decided to grab a burger downstairs. So here's a bunch of fairly wholesome musical theatre performers wolfing down on greasy burgers when the lights dim and out walks a very tired looking dancer. walks over to her ghetto blaster, reaches over and hits the play button.

As The Knack grinds out the guitar chords, she winds up the toy dog and sets it down between her splayed legs. Even with the stage flooded in hot pink light, I saw way more than I needed. What would the dog do once it reached its destination? Would we have to call the SPCA?

But, the song had a great beat, so "most" of us turned our back to the stage and went about our conversation as My Sharona forever became tattooed on my consciousness as the stripper song.
